Tennis pro Martin to play for charity

A charity tennis event called "Swingin' for Victory'' will be held Friday and Saturday at Springside Racquet and Fitness Club in Akron.

It is part of the Todd Martin Grand Slam Series. Martin, who will be playing a match on Saturday, is a pro player with a long list of accomplishments who is known for his charitable works.
All proceeds from the event will benefit "Victory Gallop,'' a therapeutic equestrian program for ill or disabled children.

Starting at noon Friday, a series of clinics will be held for men, women and juniors. The cost varies from $55 to $75 per clinic.

The Saturday schedule calls for a Pro-Am Tournament starting at 8 a.m.

That will be followed by an exhibition match featuring Martin and Jim Thomas against Scott Green and Ross Wilson.

Thomas is a former Canton Central Catholic High and Stanford star now playing professionally. Green, a North Canton product, and Wilson are the No. 1 doubles team at Ohio State.

The cost for the match is $10. A dinner will be held afterward, at a cost of $30.

For more information, call Victory Gallop at 330-666-0300
