pro Martin to play for charity
A charity tennis
event called "Swingin' for Victory'' will be held Friday and Saturday at Springside Racquet and Fitness Club in Akron.
It is part of
the Todd Martin Grand Slam Series. Martin, who will be playing a match on Saturday, is a pro player with a long list of accomplishments
who is known for his charitable works.
All proceeds
from the event will benefit "Victory Gallop,'' a therapeutic equestrian program for ill or disabled children.
Starting
at noon Friday, a series of clinics will be held for men, women and juniors. The cost varies from $55 to $75 per clinic.
The
Saturday schedule calls for a Pro-Am Tournament starting at 8 a.m.
That
will be followed by an exhibition match featuring Martin and Jim Thomas against Scott Green and Ross Wilson.
Thomas
is a former Canton Central Catholic High and Stanford star now playing professionally. Green, a North Canton product, and
Wilson are the No. 1 doubles team at Ohio State.
The
cost for the match is $10. A dinner will be held afterward, at a cost of $30.
